Ithacaid, an annual charity concert event, cosponsored by TKE, is in its eighteenth year. The event was held on Friday October 30, 2009, during Cornell’s parents weekend and was organized with help from Delta Delta Delta sorority. This year, $7000 was raised for St. Jude’s Research Hospital, an institution providing care for children with cancer.
As a transfer student from Penn State, I have seen first-hand how valuable a charity St. Jude’s is. Before I came to Cornell, I participated in an event that St. Jude’s kids were invited to attend and interact with students participating in a 48 hour dance marathon. We are proud and excited to support this charity; it has a tremendous effect on people’s lives.
A wide variety of performers were onstage, including some of the best acapella groups on campus, a pair of comedy improv teams, and two dance troupes. New to Ithacaid this year is Yamatai, a Japanese drumming group. The various groups were excited to contribute to St. Jude’s Research Hospital by means of their performances. Corporate sponsors this year also made the event the best it could be, donating concessions sold to audience members – Subway, Quizno’s, Five Guys, Chili’s, and Starbucks.
We are proud to continue the tradition of making Ithacaid the best it can be and look forward to the event.
